The evening pays tribute to prolific jazz guitarst and composer Grant Green with Scott Sharrard and Friends headlining and Hip Pocket opening the show. Recording prolifically and mainly for Blue Note Records, Green performed in the hard bop, soul jazz, bebop, and Latin-tinged idioms. Critics write, “A severely underrated player during his lifetime, Grant Green is one of the great unsung heroes of jazz guitar ... Green's playing is immediately recognizable – perhaps more than any other guitarist.”
In addition to great music, the evening will raise awareness of clostridium difficile infections (CDI). Preventable CDIs afflict 500,000 Americans every year and cause more than 30,000 deaths.
The event will take place at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32nd Street in Manhattan, and all proceeds will support Peggy Lillis Foundation’s fight against C. diff.
Hip Pocket was formed with the goal of playing a single benefit show – the original Music Matters in May 1998. Over the past 20+ years we have played countless fundraisers helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for various causes.
Scott is best known as lead guitarist and bandleader for the late Gregg Allman. Scott has been declared “one of the best guitarists in the country” by Billboard magazine.
Clostridium difficile is a bacterium that can cause symptoms ranging from severe diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. C. diff most commonly affects older adults in hospitals or in long-term care facilities and typically occurs after use of antibiotic medications. However, studies show increasing rates of infection among people traditionally not considered high risk, such as younger and healthy individuals without a history of antibiotic use or exposure to health care facilities. In recent years, C. diff infections have become more frequent, severe and difficult to treat.
Peggy Lillis Foundation (PLF) is dedicated to fighting C. diff through advocacy and education. PLF has become the leading organization confronting this urgent public health threat. Over the past eight years, it has made significant progress in educating the public, empowering advocates and shaping public policy, including:
